Porcelain Veneers Questions

Boca Raton, Palm Beach, Broward County

What is a veneer?

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain, fitted precisely to cover the visible surface of your front teeth. Veneers look, feel, and function the same as your natural teeth.

What is the difference between porcelain veneers and dental veneers?

Porcelain veneers and dental veneers are the same thing. Dental veneers are made out of porcelain, however some people use the term porcelain veneers.

Can porcelain veneers cover up the gaps in my smile?

Absolutely. Your porcelain veneers can be specifically designed to cover gaps, chips, and cracks as well as misshapen teeth. Porcelain veneers can give you the smile that you have always wanted.

If my teeth are yellow, how do I decide between whitening and porcelain veneers?

Typically, if discoloration is your only problem you may just choose to have your teeth whitened. However, if your teeth are also chipped, cracked, or misaligned, you may prefer to solve these problems with veneers instead of just fixing the color.

How are porcelain veneers made?

A dental technician will make your porcelain veneers. Your veneers are based on impressions taken by your Broward County Cosmetic Dentist. These impressions enable the technician to create veneers that are uniform in color and fit precisely to the shape of your teeth.

How much do porcelain veneers cost?

The price of porcelain veneers varies with every patient. Some patients choose to have veneers on their front teeth, some need a full mouth, and others require veneers plus bleaching to maintain consistency. You can discuss these options with your cosmetic dentist before you make a decision.

How are porcelain veneers applied?

Typically, the process of getting porcelain veneers requires two visits to your cosmetic dentist. The first appointment involves your teeth being roughened and reshaped in order to create room for the porcelain. Your cosmetic dentist then takes impressions of your teeth to create your veneers. At your second appointment, your veneers will be ready. If you are happy with the shape and color of your veneers, they will be bonded to your natural teeth.

Your teeth are thoroughly cleaned and your veneers are permanently placed with composite resin cement. This resin is safe and effective. Your new veneers will look, feel, and function the same as your natural teeth.

How do I care for my porcelain veneers?

You care for your porcelain veneers the same way as your natural teeth. With regular rinsing, flossing, and brushing, you can keep your porcelain veneers looking as good as new.

How long is the recovery period after my porcelain veneers have been applied?

After your veneers have been applied, you can begin eating normally within hours. Some patients complain about sensitivity for a few days. We recommend you avoid extremely cold drinks until your teeth adjust to the dental bonding material.
