Neuromuscular Orthotic Appliance

 

What to Expect from Your Orthotic Delivery

Your neuromuscular orthotic appliance is ready and your appointment is made for it to be delivered. There are a few things we want you to be aware of prior to this appointment. Please wear clothing that is comfortable. Do not apply any make-up or facial crèmes the day of delivery and make sure you are clean-shaven. You will be tensed first for about one hour and then the orthotic will be adjusted to your specific needs. If required, a tomograph may be taken to insure the orthotic is positioned correctly.

As your symptoms are resolved, decompression of the TMJ may occur which may require us to adjust your orthotic from time to time. These adjustments are usually in the beginning of your treatment. Remember, it has taken years to get your body in its current state of pathology. It will take some time for your body to heal and for your new neuromuscular bite position to stabilize.
