Ever noticed how some people when they talk about cancer, they kind of whisper the word! We need to stop whispering about Oral Cancer. Often the focus of prevalent cancers is on lung, rectum, breast and prostrate cancer. Overall Oral Cancer accounts for 3% of all the cancers and is prevalent as kidney, thyroid ovary and blood(leukemia) cancersThe American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 31,000 new cases were diagnosed in 2006, with 7430 people dying from the disease.
Prevention is imperative! We are offering an effective tool in practice, Vizilite, which is effective in identifying precancerous oral lesions and squamous cell lesions. Recent research has shown that there is a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease.
According to Dr. Sam Low of the University of Florida College of Dentistry, the bacteria that cause periodontal disease are being found in blood vessels removed during heart by pass surgeries. Periodontal disease is now being linked with strokes, low birth weight babies and diabetes. This is important to remember that when Katherine, Kim or myself are giving you the "lecture" about better home care and more frequent visits for cleaning that we are concerned about more than your teeth. we are concerned about your overall well-being and your life!

Smile Reminders

Last week we began using a new software program in our office that will confirm your appointments through e-mail or a text message to your cell phone! It is a wonderful system that will allow us to serve our clients in an increasingly efficient manner. Smile Reminder will notify you of your future appointment 2 weeks in advance, 2 days in advance and we can even program it to remind you of your appointment an hour prior. We realize there are individuals that don't use texting or get charged for that service. If you are one of these clients please notify us and we will make the appropriate changes so we do not contact you in that manner. We will continue to confirm appointments the old way, on the phone! If this is the only way you wish to be reminded of your appointment please tell us so that we can give you the best service possible to meet your needs!
